I don't think anyone would argue that our health is paramount.
The old saying is, "You can have 1,000 problems in your life until you have a health problem, then you only have one problem."
There's no question that your health is worth the investment; we just buy unnecessary things that don't offer the rewards we intended.
The health and wellness industry has done a great job marketing the idea that we need the next shiny toy.
I'm not immune to this either.
Most health and wellness products are simply a waste of money.
In today's newsletter article, we are going to review 15 health purchases that are actually worth the investment. We have compiled them into three major buckets: Nutrition, Movement & Strength, and Sleep & Recovery.
I'll share the brands we use at home along with a discount code if they're partnered with the Human Newsletter.
Nutrition

- Stainless Steel Cookware Nonstick coatings can break down at high heat and leach unwanted compounds into your food. Stainless steel is durable, chemical-free, and gets the job done for a lifetime. We use Our Place, All Clad, and Carraway
- High-Quality Water FilterTap water can carry contaminants, from heavy metals to disinfection byproducts. A good filter is one of the easiest, highest-leverage investments in your daily nutrient intake. We use the Rorra Countertop Filter (Code "London").
- Wooden Cutting BoardsUnlike plastic boards, wood doesn't shed microplastics into your food with every slice, and it harbors less surface bacteria over time.We use Carraway's wooden cutting boards.
- Vitamix BlenderA high-powered blender makes it effortless to get more vegetables, fruits, fiber, and protein into your day — smoothies, soups, and sauces without the excuse of "I didn't have time."
- Glass Food-Storage ContainersSwapping plastic for glass means fewer microplastics and endocrine-disrupting chemicals leaching into leftovers, especially when reheating. We use Carraway's glass food storage containers.
Movement & Strength

- Traditional Finnish SaunaRegular sauna use is linked to improved cardiovascular function, lower blood pressure, and reduced all-cause mortality in observational studies — think of it as passive cardiovascular conditioning. We set our Sisu sauna to 175-195 degrees Fahrenheit and sit in for 11-17 minutes per session (Code "London").
- Running/Walking shoesProper footwear protects joints, improves biomechanics, and improves comfort, which encourages more walks or runs. The consistency is what actually drives cardiovascular and metabolic benefit.
- CreatineOne of the most well-studied supplements available, creatine supports muscle strength and mass, and emerging research points to cognitive benefits as well.We use Rho's Liposomal Creatine (Code "London").
- Standing DeskBreaking up long bouts of sitting improves blood flow and reduces the metabolic penalties associated with prolonged inactivity.
- Pull-Up BarA simple, inexpensive way to build upper-body and grip strength at home. Grip strength itself is an underrated marker of longevity.
Sleep & Recovery

- Air PurifierCleaner indoor air reduces inflammatory triggers and can improve sleep quality, especially for those with allergies or living in higher-pollution areas. We have an Air Doctor purifier in our bedroom; especially with four dogs, it makes a huge difference.
- Blackout CurtainsLight exposure at night suppresses melatonin production. Full darkness helps protect your circadian rhythm and deepen sleep quality.
- High-Quality MattressSleep is when your body repairs itself — cardiovascular, metabolic, and cognitive systems included. A supportive mattress is foundational.
- Magnesium GlycinateThis well-absorbed form of magnesium supports relaxation and sleep quality, and magnesium itself plays a role in over 300 enzymatic processes in the body.We use Rho's Liposomal Magnesium (Code "London").
- Cooling/Heating Mattress PadCore body temperature needs to drop for you to fall and stay asleep. Temperature-regulating pads help optimize that process, especially for people who run hot at night. There are many options on the market; we love our Pod 5 from Eight Sleep. It not only cools and heats the mattress but also seamlessly tracks sleep quantity/quality, HRV, and resting heart rate. (Code "London").
Make the Basics Easy
Unfortunately, none of these purchases are going to do the work for you.
The benefit with most of these products is that they reduce the resistance between you and the habits that truly make a difference.
The easier it is for you to get a great night's rest, go for a walk, make a morning protein smoothie, and cook at home - the more consistent you will be.
The magic is in the habitual consistency that compounds over time.
If a purchase makes a healthy habit consistent, then it's well worth the investment.
Stay Hydrated. Replace What You Lose.
Hydration isn’t just about drinking more water — it’s about replacing what you lose.
When you sweat (from workouts, sauna sessions, or just daily life activities), you’re not just losing water — you’re losing electrolytes like sodium, potassium, and magnesium.
That's why I drink LMNT as my electrolyte replacement.
LMNT uses a science-backed electrolyte ratio of sodium, potassium, and magnesium.
LMNT tastes great and helps me replenish my electrolytes after a hard workout or a sauna session. I mix one LMNT packet (usually Grapefruit Salt, my favorite flavor) into a 32-oz water bottle to stay hydrated throughout the day.
If you are active, sweat often, and want to try LMNT for yourself, click here to receive a FREE sample pack of all 8 flavors with any purchase, plus a No-Questions-Asked Refund Policy.
